How to play Ten Thousand

Game Rules

Ten Thousand (also known as Farkle) is played by two or more players. Each player takes turns throwing six dice. The player's turn results in a score, and the scores for each player accumulates to some winning total (usually 10,000 - thus the name).

At the beginning of each turn, the player rolls all six dice. After each throw, one or more scoring dice must be pulled down and scored. Scoring combinations are as follows:

One's – 100 points

Five's – 50 points

3 of a kind - 100 points times the face value. For example, three four's are worth 400 points. The exception here is that three 1's are worth 1,000 points.

4,5,6 of a kind – Each additional match doubles the previous score. So four 5's are worth 1,000 points (3x5 = 500, 500 x 2 = 1000). Five 5's are worth 2,000 (4x5 = 1000 x 2 = 2000).

Large Straight (1 thru 6) - 2000 points

Small Straight (1 thru 5 or 2 thru 6) - 500 points

3 Pairs - 1200 points. NOTE: four of a kind and two of a kind does not count as three pairs.

3 consecutive Farkle's - Negative 1000 points

The player may then either end their turn and score the points accumulated so far, or continue to throw the remaining dice.

If the player has scored all six dice, they may continue their turn with a new throw of all six dice, adding to the score they have already accumulated. If none of the dice score in any given throw, the player has "farkled" and all points for this turn will be lost.

Once a player has achieved a winning point total, each other player has one last turn to score enough points to surpass that high-score and win the game.

Game Play Options (Full Version Only)

Minimum Score - When this option is enabled, the players must get the specified amount (500, 750, 1000) in a single turn, before they can begin scoring their points.

Play to Score - You can set this value to be 3000, 5000, 7500 or 10000. This is the total score you are trying to reach to win the game.

4's, 5's and 6's of a Kind - Turn this on to score on more than three of a kind.

Force Reroll if All Dice Scored - Turn this on to force the player to roll after scoring on all six dice.

One Last Turn to Win - Turn this on to give other players one chance to beat the winning score.

Farkle Penalty - With this option enabled, players lose 1,000 points when they get three Farkles in a row.

Small Straight Scoring - When this option is enabled, a small straight (Five in a row) is worth 500 points.

Three Sets of Two of a Kind - When this option is enabled, three sets of pairs are worth 1200 points.
